I am a reluctant writer, a singer of mostly old songs, sometimes an actor, and sometimes an activist.  I’m a wife, a mother of a grown woman and a grown man, daughter of a young man who, so the story goes, was loved by everyone who met him and the young woman he chose because he thought she was beautiful. I am the second child in a set of six; I waited 17 years for a sister. I first became conscious in a place I would learn was called Beckley, West Virginia.  As far as I know I didn’t choose it, but some say otherwise.  In any case, that’s where I started out.
